"Gnome Sweet Gnome" birdhouse

I designed and built this birdhouse for a benefit for Pritzker Elementary School. The birdhouses will be displayed in various shops around Wicker Park and then auctioned off at the end of the month. For more info, visit...

If you can't tell, it's a gnome! The roof is hinged to the side and flips open for easy cleaning. It's mostly made out of cedar wood and the shingles are maple and the eyebrow is walnut. The studio I share has a great wood shop that I was able to use. Found lots of scraps for the details. One of my studio mates, Kevin Schuhl helped greatly by making the angled cuts on the pieces and giving me construction advice. I painted the shingles in 3 shades of blue, 1-shot paint.
